Day 5 Texas Trip

After two days stuck in a van and another two days wrestling; the boys were ready for some time to relax and enjoy themselves.  We found a perfect place to hangout and enjoy the 105 degree temperatures...Hawaiian Falls Water Park.  We spent 7 hours at the water park today enjoying 15 different water slides, the lazy river, and a wave pool all while soaking up the high intensity Texas sun rays.  We will be bring back these Midwest boys with some Southern tans!! After 7 hours of sun and swimming they worked up a huge appetite.  They took care of that at the Golden Corral...I know they lost money at that place after these boys came in and ate! 

We will be departing from Justin Texas at 8:00 am.  Hoping to reach Norfolk NE by 8:00 pm or so.  Everything has been going great.  What a great bunch of young men!

Day 4 Texas Trip

I feel that our boys have had a great chance to help get a grip on their wrestling and mental thoughts while their wrestling in the last couple of days.  The quote above comes from a book that I had picked up from coach Straub and it is right on with the what the boys have been working on and getting better at.  We made big improvements on the mat today and turned our record from 2-4 (after yesterday) to 8-6!  What an experience for the team.  There have been a lot of positives that have come from this trip and I know they will make a big difference going into next season!

Day 3 Texas Trip

Well, we came down to get some different competition and we found it.  The boys wrestled some hard fought battles!  Our hand was raised after some of the matches and others it wasn't.  However,  we tried to keep our focus on improving throughout the tournament and making adjustments that will make us better wrestlers in the future!  We have been trying to stress that we need go out and wrestle and give our best effort each and every match and accept whatever happens for what it is no matter what the outcome of the match was.  We have wrestled some great  teams....and for the most part we are holding our own.  We went 2-4 today with wins over Lone Star Elite a club team out of Texas and Geary Oklahoma.  Our losses came from a state team Kansas Black, a club team known as South Florida, another club team known as Turks Head out of Pennsylvania, and a club based out of St. Louis Missouri.    Here are the results of each match.  You can also get updates on from Coach Nels Onstads Twitter @ #knightswrestling

Day 2 Texas Trip

WE MADE IT TO TEXAS!!!!

Travels continued to go well!  We did get a chance to stop in at the National Wrestling Hall of Fame, and we got to tour OSU's wrestling facility.  Plus the scenery actually did change a little (for the better).  Everyone made weight and were excited to eat last night.  Brenda and Brandi put together a great meal the boys weren't complaining with the roasted chicken, potatoes, pasta salad, veggies, fruit, buns, and a couple (for some a few) glasses of milk.  Coach Straub did an excellent job with his presentation on finding your mental edge when competing on the mat and I think it will have a positive effect on our boys!

We are excited and anxious to get on the mat and see how we perform.  It looks like we should get 8 matches/duals in today! 

Texas Trip Day 1

The drive to Wichita went well today!  The kids couldn't believe the beautiful landscape and scenery along the way....corn....corn...and more corn!  It was a fun day of traveling.  I know they had their fair share of laughs.  The weight cutters are doing great with their weight.  We have wake up calls set for 7 and hope to be on the road by 8 am.
