Jake Larkin attends10-day intensive wrestling camp at Cornell University in Ithaca, New York

Jake Larkin who is weighing 140 pound and is an incoming freshman at WCA participated in a
10-day intensive wrestling camp at Cornell University in Ithaca, New York from June 24th-July 3rd.

The camp was designed for the serious wrestler who desired a highly competitive and intense training experience.
All aspects of folk-style wrestling were covered, with special attention paid the psychological and physical development of each wrestler.
Jake was exposed to training techniques of some of the worlds’ most accomplished wrestlers.

His favorite clinician was Mitch Clark, he is best known for his 17-0 technical fall in the first period of the 1998 NCAA finals.
He is looking forward to sharing his newly acquired skills with his teammates this winter.
Jake attended the camp with his cousin, Collin Blackwell from Commerce, Michigan.

After the camp, Jake’s aunt and uncle treated him to a baseball game at Detroit’s Comerica Park.  The game happened to be the Detroit Tigers against the Minnesota Twins.
Following the game, Jake witnessed the most impressive fireworks display he had ever seen.

Jake thought the camp experience was great, the trip to New York was good, being escorted onto his airplane as the very first person seated  was pretty cool, the Tigers game okay (since the Twins lost) and the fireworks display was awesome.

Barrett 5K

On Saturday, June 23, 2012, a group of WCA wrestling coaches, wrestlers, parents, and managers assembled to take part in the Barrett Old Settler's Reunion 5K run. Paul Mickelsen, Tammie Olson, Aaron Ray, Chad Lorensen, Ethan Olson, and Kade Olson all placed top three in each of their respective divisions; four of those being 1st place earnings. Tyler and Chris Onstad (not pictured) also ran the 5K. Royal Crow and Kyle Olson helped with the water station at the half-way point of the race, while Nels and Brenda Onstad helped at the finish line with timing.

Proceeds for the Barrett 5K race went to the West Central Minnesota Running Club, which benefit the WCA Schools cross country and track and field programs.  The running club will be putting on two more races this summer; one will be in Elbow Lake for Flekkefest on August 4th, and the other will be in Hoffman for Harvest Festival on August 11th.
