This week's Wrestler of the Week is Hunter Fick.

Hunter verbally committed to wrestling last year during the section tournament.  At the time, we had heard that he was a strong, no, really strong kid from Ashby.  Turns out he was.  As sophomore, there are only a few wrestlers I can think of that have had the kind of strength that Hunter possess.  However, it takes more than strength to wrestle.  Beyond the weight room what is impressive about Hunter is his leadership and work-ethic in the practice room.  He works incredibly hard and really has integrated himself with his teammates.

Hunter has improved each time on the mat.  He is exciting to watch.  He keeps the fans entertained with his energy and his charisma on the mat.  He is a great addition to this team.  His 3rd place finish at the Grant County Tournament has earned him this accolade.

Week 1 Wrestler of the Week

8th Grader, Jake Nohre has been selected as the Knight Wrestler of the Week.  He started his varsity wrestling debut with two wins.  The first came against Pelican Rapids.  Jake beat a wrestler that he had dropped matches on 4 previous meetings.  Jake then claimed his second victory that night against his 106 lb opponent from Ottertail Central.  Since that time Jake has also claimed two additional victories and is currently 4-0 on the season.

Jake has always been undersized, yet pound-for-pound he is one of the most technical and powerful wrestlers in the room.  Coaches use Jacob as an example of how to stay in good position while wrestling.  Although naturally talented, Jacob has spent a considerable amount of time on the mat and has put on thousands of miles on the road traveling to practice and to tournaments for over 7 years.  Jacob is the single wrestler at this time from Evansville.

Good Job Jake and Keep up the Great Work.

(Also - Thanks to Tim and Julie as they have put on just as many miles in the last several years.)

Fick Claims Another State Title
By: Kevin Fick

Sat., December 1st Hunter Fick competed in Sioux Falls, SD in the USAPL Sioux Empire Bench Open.  The event was held in the McCrossan Boys Ranch Gymnasium and was sanctioned by the United States of America Powerlifting Association.

The event featured 29 competitive lifters, each athlete attempts three lifts in the bench press.  Hunter competes in the Teen ll amateur division of this organization which includes 16-17 yr old men that are tested for substances.  This is a natural competition.  All gear the athlete wears must be checked in during the weigh-in process and each lift is judged by three officials.  Hunters first attempt was 335 lbs.  After the start, press and rack command Hunter claims his 2nd Minnesota title in a month.  The 2nd attempt was at 355 lbs, Hunter cleared the lift for a new American title but the lift was disregarded for a voice command infraction.  The 3rd attempt of the day scratched.  Hunter’s new record exceeded the old MN record by 48 lbs.  Hunter placed 1st overall for the Teen Divisions and 2nd in power points for the overall behind SD lifter Casey Raaen.  The meet was directed by Jona Leo and head official was SD USAPL chair Becky Jacobsen.

In attendance was Cole Fronning, great aunt Carrie Fisher and father Kevin Fick.  Hunters next competition is Jan. 13th  in Burnsville, MN.  The event is called the UPA Southside Winter Heat sanctioned by the UPA (United Power lifter Assoc.).
