Tyler Onstad and Hunter Gruchow Compete at the MNUSA Greco and Freestyle State Tournament

Just about a month has passed since these two boys wrestled in the MNUSA State Greco/Freestyle tournament but it seems just like yesterday.  While Freestyle and Greco wrestling styles do not get the same attention that Folkstyle (high school) wrestling does, it is the two styles that are represented in the Olympics.  Tyler competed at 105 lbs in the Schoolboy division and Hunter competed at the 50 lbs peewee division.  After making weigh-ins that were good for the weekend on Friday May 18th, Greco competition began.  Hunter Gruchow went 2 and 1 on the day which earned him 2nd place honors.  Tyler Onstad fought hard through his two bouts but unfortunately lost both matches.  Greco Roman discipline is different than folkstyle and freestyle disciplines in the fact that wrestlers may not touch the opponents legs in any way.  Scoring is different and would require another 3 pages of writing to explain but the main goal is still to get a pin!  After a night of fun in the pool and some rest the two boys were ready to get after it the next day.  Saturday brought the Freestyle State Tournament and another day of great competition.  Tyler lost his first match of the day but came back with a great win by fall against his opponent from Rochester Mn.  Tyler Lost in his third match of the day and concluded his competition for the weekend.  Hunter went 3 and 1 on the day and earned another 2nd place medal.  It was a great weekend for these two wrestlers, they wrestled some great competition, enjoyed each others company, met some new wrestling friends, and expanded their knowledge and ability in the oldest sport  in the world "WRESTLING."
